ABOUT ME

WHO I AM

My name is Joshua Berkovic.  I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the NSCA, a professional mixed martial arts champion, and a certified yoga teacher by the Yoga College of India. My holistic approach to teaching is based upon my background and continued study of exercise science, athletic performance, martial arts, yoga, weight training and gymnastics strength training. I have devoted my life to being a practitioner, teacher, and student.

WHAT I DO

I provide individualized training based upon the goals of my clients in the subjects of strength and conditioning, athletic performance, mobility, general movement capacity, martial arts, and rehabilitation. My continued practice of various physical disciplines and continued study of the science and philosophy of human movement are reflected in the progressive nature of my training methods.

I was 5 feet and 220 pounds when I began working with Josh, and within a year was down 50 pounds despite not having made any changes to my diet or doing more than 12 min of cardio a week. 


Unlike other trainers, Josh didn’t begin our relationship by promising me gains and getting excited about the hard work ahead. He asked me what I wanted to achieve...and then built a smart and approachable program towards that goal adjusting for the body limitations I had developed over two decades. 


For example, I’ve always had trouble with a simple pushup and was told by other trainers to fix this by trying more and more pushups. Instead of relentless and endless attempts at boot camp style pushups, which never yielded results, Josh identified issues with my shoulder and back muscle integration. We spent months activating these connections through small isolations and viola - the push up became easily available. 


His integrative evidence based approach to movement gave me the confidence to stick with non traditional exercises knowing that free and easy movement was around the corner. 


I would recommend Josh to anyone, but especially to people who appreciate evidence-based training, who haven’t made significant strength gains through traditional boot camp or weight training, and who want to become not just stronger and faster be also freer with their movements.
